Myspace

May 26, 2010 Bloggies by Administrator

I notice quite a few bands even some jazz clubs use myspace as their website. Great for showing off your music or who your friends are, but for cryin out loud surely the idea is to have a web presence so that people can contact you to book you you for a gig. In order to "Send a message" you have to be a myspace member, and many ordinary people are not myspace members, and would give up and find another band, where their details and phone number are found with ease.

Jazz Clubs and Societies

May 22, 2010 Bloggies by Administrator

Whilst recovering from this flu and updating the Bandman website, I started on the Clubs and Societies. I think one gets tunnel vision and forgets or doesn't realize there is a whole world out there full of like minded people listening and enjoying all the aspects of jazz. Wow - just click on the links to some of these clubs and check out their websites. It may be a simple site or an all singing all dancing site but the message is very clear Jazz it's a lot of fun to a lot of people. Those clubs who do not have a website please consider it - It was such a joy to see what you are all doing. I feel better already!

P.S. If you want any advice on how to make a website for your club give us a hoy!

Backup

How often do you see on TV or read in the papers that someone's laptop has been stolen and "all my photos of etc etc " have gone. Or "all my Uni notes have gone". Oh dear Oh dear USB flash drives cost virtually nothing – prices range from less than $10 (2 GB), to under $50 (16 GB). That’s a lot of photo storage per dollar. A simple Windows Explorer right click menu command “Copy to folder”, would have copied the photos to a USB stick in seconds. PC owners have a wide variety of options when it comes to backup software. Here are 4 free ones - Comodo Time machine - Dropbox - Clonezilla - Mozy - and for $70 there is Acronis - great value when wanting your computer restored.
Apart from that, the flu continuesand am now at the "can't taste anything stage". Which reminds me do you have a good antivirus program on your computer. Please not the free ones. The ones you pay for can capture the more up to date viruses and malware. Recommended - Avira

I'm a bit behind in technology but I lashed out and I am now the owner of a Blackberry. It sings it dances and much more. I can take it to festivals, take photos or video, call people, and even update facebook ar even the bandman website whilst sitting at the bar on some tropical island. It buzzes and sends out all sorts of sounds when it receives things a bloody marvel really. I can get all sorts of apps for it and even google jazz musos I need to know something about. I've got a copy of The dummies guide to Blackberry so my life will soon be streamlined. I wish my body was a bit more streamlined, but there is probably an app for that too.

The Flu

Knocked out by the flu and doing a gig with the flu really takes it out of you. However the voice becomes really deep, and she's threatened to kick me out of the house unless I stop singing "I was born under a wandering star". Apart from that the site site building continues and this blog is a new feature. And you can comment if you have registered.
